2010 Parador Cellars Red Wine Napa Valley
Parador is the brain-child of Steve Ventrello, who was perplexed and intrigued by Napa's surprising lack of Tempranillo plantings. With the help of friends and colleagues, he traveled to Ribera del Duero and Rioja to gather budwood cuttings of a particularly renowned Tempranillo clone. Back in California, Steve selected a vineyard site along the eastern side of Napa on a 1,000 foot elevation hilltop ridge, and the rest is liquid history.
The 2010 blend begins with a majority dose of fat, fleshy Napa Cabernet sourced from eastern Napa's Soda Canyon area, where the soils mimic the finest of Bordeaux. Then, a healthy whack of Napa Tempranillo was added. In the end, it's got a lengthy stay in French oak followed by a luxurious bottle aging regime. That's about 5 years before it's released, uniting fruit and spice to make this red a very, very nice glass of wine.

A Parador is the ancient name for a Spanish country inn. The sort of place where musing over a glass of wine can lead to some profound conclusions. Such was the case with Steve Ventrello, proprietor of the brand. As he sat on a patio of just such an inn, enjoying the sunset and a glass of Ribera del Duero, Steve had something of an epiphany: If Cabernet and Tempranillo could be blended so well in Spain, why not here?
With the help of friends and colleagues he traveled to Ribiera del Duero and Rioja to gather bud-wood cuttings of a particularly renowned Tempranillo clone. Back in California, Steve selected a vineyard site along the eastern side of Napa on a 1,000 foot elevation hilltop ridge, and the rest is liquid history.About Parador
