2007 Roger Pouillon 'Les Valnons' Extra-Brut Champagne
The name of this cuvée is short for "les Valnons Froid Cul," [loose translation: "the cold-ass valleys"] a famous and seemingly cold zone in Aÿ. This wine embodies a very unique and rare experience: tasting true Blanc de Blancs from one of the best situated slopes in Aÿ, a grand cru village more famous for rich, articulate pinot noir. 50% fermented in oak and 50% in enamel, this delivers clear mineral verve with distinctive richness and intense texture. Its dosage is a modest 5 grams of sugar per liter, just shy of the minimum of 6 g/l needed to call the wine Brut. A steely, noble, concentrated expression of Chardonnay!
