2013 Ramey Wine Cellars 'Rodgers Creek' Syrah Sonoma Coast

Avg. Rating:
(0)

Pour this blind, in a lineup with elite producers of Côte-Rôtie, and nobody would bat a single eyelash. This is stunning Syrah, growing on white volcanic ash high in the Petaluma Gap. Galloni calls this one "a jewel of a wine. Here the flavors and textures are finely sketched, with gorgeous vibrancy, tension and energy. Graphite, pencil shavings, smoke, blackberry jam and lavender notes." Do this wine justice and give it at least 5-10 years in the cellar.

David Ramey is one of the true aces of winemaking in California. While he had an established track record at Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill and Dominus, we first got to know him well during his stint at Oakville’s Rudd Estate (where he helped take the project into the stratosphere with his work in the vineyard and cellar). His talent and vision caught the eye of the press in a big way, and we suspected it was only a matter of time before his own name appeared on a label. As Robert Parker advised, “Get on the bandwagon as David Ramey is on top of his game.” We couldn’t agree more.
