2010 Ringbolt "21 Barriques" Cabernet Sauvignon, Australia

We're all familiar with Australian Shiraz, but Aussie Cabernet is as rare as hen's teeth around here. What's that about? Australia's warm climate grows some of the most lush examples of Shiraz the world has known. While that heat works for Shiraz, it's often too hot for Cabernets with any appreciable balance. But, there are a few cooler pockets across Australia such as the Margaret River region, where Cabernet thrives. The Margaret River region not only shares a similar climate to Bordeaux, it's also marked with similar sandy and gravel soils. The soils here help naturally reduce fruit yields and concentrate flavors in the grapes. Additionally, 2011 was an outstanding vintage - drier and warmer than normal which gave the grapes an extra boost of cooler flavor and tannins.Winemaker Peter Gambetta first worked with Margaret River fruit in 1986, and he knew from the beginning that this area had the potential to make something special. Now, with over 20 vintages under his belt, he sees Ringbolt as his opportunity to continue sharing his love for Cabernet Sauvignon and build his understanding of this great region. We can't wait to unscrew the cap and get better acquainted with Margaret.
