2012 School House 'Mescolanza' Red Spring Mountain
More From School House Vineyard:
2007 School House 'Mescolanza Venerable Red' Napa Valley
Some of the winery's oldest plantings, now around 120 years old, go into this classic "mixed blacks" red, comprised primarily of Zinfandel, complemented by Petite Sirah and Carignane. This is distinctly Pinot-like, with notes of rose water, cocoa powder, raspberries and leather. A refreshing 13.6% ABV. Only available here and at the winery!
John O. Gantner. The man who took Pinot Noir clones from Domaine de Romanée-Conti in the 1950s and began producing cult wines before the term cult wine even existed. Today, John's son and namesake, John M. Gantner, along with Nancy Walker oversee all viticulture on Schoolhouse's Spring Mountain property. Like his father before him, John dry farms the property, part of which is planted with a mix of young and old vines, some as old as 120 years. At an altitude of 1,500 feet on Spring Mountain, the vineyard takes its name from the one-room school house that was built in the 1880s and burned down a century later. Prepare yourself for a fine wine education and grab a bottle - it's so much more pleasurable than picking up a book.About School House Vineyard
