2012 Yalumba 'The Menzies' Cabernet Sauvignon Coonawarra

2010 Yalumba 'FDR1A' Cabernet/Shiraz Barossa Valley$44.95
$40.46 btl/mixed case*
"The Menzies" refers to Robert Menzies, the longest-serving Prime Minister of Australia and a confirmed red wine lover. This wine comes from Yalumba's prime holdings in Coonawarra, in South Australia's Limestone Coast right near the border with Victoria state. The soils here are known as "Terra Rossa," and overlay white limestone that retains water beautifully. This is home to Australia's finest Cabernet Sauvignons.
The 2012 Menzies is loaded with aromas of blackcurrant, peppery spice, graphite, and cedar. In the mouth the wine is juicy, full-bodied, and oh so rich. This is a wine that will age 10-15 years if you wanted it to, but still drinks very well today with a range of dishes. It defines what we mean by "Killer Cab"! Try pairing it with roasted tri-tip with horseradish cream, or perhaps a pot of short ribs braised with fennel, garlic, and onion.
