Red Wine from Burgundy

Burgundy is home of the undisputed ruling grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Due to French inheritance laws in the area, vineyards are often subdivided amongst heirs, resulting in winemaking by negoçiant – where grapes are sold to a wine merchant who assembles a wine from several small growers. Here cold winters and cool summers make the early ripening Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes shine with layered minerality and nuanced depth. Burgundy encompasses several sub-regions between the towns of Dijon and Lyon with Chablis as a satellite that often gets included in conversations about Burgundy. Incredible variation can be detected in wines hailing from regions such as Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, as well as Mâconnaise and Beaujolais. Each of these regions were further fractured into classified areas that often grew up around small towns. It’s a dizzyingly complex system to say the least, but fortunately we’ve done our homework and can guarantee that if you find it here, it’s gonna be great.
