First planted in 1882, and one of the earliest converts to organic farming in the Napa Valley, Spottswoode is a true treasure of the St. Helena appellation. It is to St. Helena what Château Montelena is to Calistoga, Inglenook is to Rutherford, and what Dominus Estate is to Yountville: A First Growth Property that defines the AVA.
In 2015, Spottswoode’s Estate Cabernet joined the 2002, 2007, and 2010 wines in garnering a 100-Point Score in The Wine Advocate. It’s a wine of uncommon poise and class, a true collector’s item. The Wine Advocate loved its “beautiful nose of dried roses, lavender and Chinese five spice over a core of warm blackcurrants, kirsch and wild blueberries, plus wafts of fallen leaves and dusty earth. The medium to full-bodied palate features the most amazing intensity of perfumed red, black and blue fruit flavors supported by exquisitely fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length and depth. Truly stunning. 100 Points.”
We’ve put together a fabulous collectors’ pack with three bottles of the Estate wine plus nine bottles of Spottswoode’s Lyndenhurst Cabernet, which is comprised of 70% Spottswoode Estate and 30% purchased fruit. Suckling loved it: “A fresh and fruity red with blackcurrant, raspberry and spice character. Full body, super dusty tannins and a flavorful finish. Linear and bright. Luxurious.”
Is there a better way to indulge your Spottswoode fascination than to savor these 12 bottles over the next 20 years? We can’t think of one either!
