Finished in twice-toasted Kentucky Oak, this tale is told by apprentice malt master Kelsey McKechnie and is the story of highlighting the delicate, complex tone of The Balvenie’s spirit from the still. With malty notes accented by citrus and spice, the aromatics are a wonderful prelude to the heart of the spirit. Candied orange peel, dense vanilla and butterscotch notes envelope the senses and lead to a finish boasting chocolate fudge, spice and a rich, honeyed character. A beauty of a whisky and one of the finest 12-year expressions we’ve tasted in some time!
Thanks to a special combination of natural alchemy and centuries old craftsmanship, The Balvenie is unique among single malt producers in Scotland. One of the few remaining distilleries to grow and malt their own barley in-house, they also have a resident coppersmith who maintains the stills, and they employ a team of coopers who ensure each barrel is in perfect condition before they are filled. Lastly, their Malt Master David Stewart presides over the all-important maturation process. Their attention to detail and ability to control all processes from start to finish has made them a favorite among those in the know. Come taste what all the fuss is about!
