WhistlePig 'Piggyback' 6-year Straight Rye Whiskey
A six year rye whiskey that packs a wallop of flavor in every sip. Dave Pickerell's legacy in the distilling business was cemented long before this, his last hurrah, but this is a whiskey that will forever be linked to the legendary distiller.
Produced with the bartender in mind, this is perfect rye for your home cocktail making, but it's also a grand sipper! The nose unmistakably rye forward, shows notes of pumpernickel, cinnamon, cracked pepper laced with Valencia orange peel. The palate is a spice-laden ride straight through a field of rye with its flavors building on the nose with loads of cardamom, leather, baker's chocolate, all laced with a sweet wisp of brown sugar. The long, lithe finish shows more spice and a beautiful hint of green apple skin. This is an affordable rye with balance and grace that deserves a place on your bar!
Whistle Pig represents everything we're looking for in a great whiskey; rarity, pedigree, and a great story. Located on one of the oldest farms in Vermont dating back to the early 19th-Century, this 500-acre property was once a thriving epicenter for grist and lumber. The farm remained in operation until 2006, when it was purchased by founder Raj Peter Bhakta and transformed into a rye farm and distillery. Bhakta's plan was to create a single estate rye whiskey that would stand as a model for fully sustainable agriculture in the US. A lofty goal that would require the help Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, who after a long career with Maker's Mark wanted to create his magnum opus. This combination of passion, experience, and just the right amount of insanity proved the perfect combination for driving success.
