2018 Fisher 'Mountain Estate Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County

The 2018 Fisher 'Mountain Estate' Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County is a master example of how to tame to the tough terrain and mountain climate within which this vineyard sits. Planted on extremely steep terrain, the grapes produced from these stressed vines produce fruit that is loaded with tension and vigor. Bright cherry and plum awake the senses, with dark fruit flavors, richness and tobacco on the palate. Bold and powerful, the wine glides to an easy finish.

The Fisher family has the sort of vineyards that will cause a winemaker’s pulse to quicken – a vitally important advantage in a game where the conversation starts (and ends) with raw materials. From their gorgeous estate property on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas range, to their Lamb vineyard in Calistoga, they have some magical land at their disposal. Winemaker Whitney Fisher and her team are farming these plots to exacting standards, and the results are some of the best wines in the Valley! You owe it to yourself to mix up a case of these fabulous wines.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a powerful wine with tons of mountain character. Ash, graphite, dried flower, iron and host of savory notes all run through the Mountain Estate Cabernet. Swaths of tannin wrap around this brooding, virile Sonoma Cabernet. The 2018 is going to need at least a few years to soften. For readers who want to know what Sonoma Cabernet is all about, this is a great place to start. In this vintage, the has a fairly high amount of Franc (13%), which really seems to add aromatic lift as well as energy. This is one of the great values in high-end, artisan California Cabernet Sauvignon.
