2018 Grieve Family Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
Mouth-filling richness, deft balance and seamless integration are all hallmarks of Grieve Family Sauvignon Blanc. Philippe Melka employs a unique mixed-vessel approach to aging that results in a wine at once vibrantly expressive and sublimely sophisticated. Melon and stone fruit aromas and flavors are buoyed by bright acidity and wet-stone nuances. The Grieve family recommends holding this wine for a year to complete its evolution.
When David and Kathleen Grieve moved from the city to wine country, they were more interested in enjoying wine that producing it. Their dream home on 10-acres in Napa’s Lovall Valley just happened to share a border with a Sauvignon Blanc vineyard. While they were avid wine enthusiasts, neither had much experience with particular varietal. Still, the pull of the vines was such that, when the neighboring vineyard hit the market, they snapped it up. The Lovall Valley, with its elevated exposures, foggy mornings and gravelly loam soil was ideally suited to world-class Sauvignon Blanc. With winemaker Philippe Melka at the helm, it’s unsurprising that these wines tend to top the most-wanted list even at Michelin-starred restaurants.
