Bernheim Original 7-year Wheat Whiskey

Bernheim Original is named for the Old Bernheim Distillery which was just outside downtown Louisville and now houses Heaven Hill’s considerable distilling operations. At its launch it was the first truly new variety of American straight wheat whiskey introduced since Prohibition. Using history as their guide the Heaven Hill Master Distillers saw an opportunity to give connoisseurs a unique olfactory experience. The distillery has undergone a renovation in recent years and Heaven Hill tells us their capacity for production now eclipses a whopping 400,000 barrels a year. That’s a lot of whiskey you’re going to want in 6 – 23 years. Master Distiller Denny Potter has to juggle a lot of projects as they produce no less than 4 brands and up to 18 different labels aside from this one each year. To say that niche whiskeys like this is a labor of love is an understatement.
