2019 Continuum - An Iconic Family's Journey in Napa Valley

The Mondavi Family's Centennial Celebration
A Legacy Continues!

2019 Continuum is a toast to a century-long quest for excellence, beginning with the first harvest of ‘C. Mondavi & Sons’ Zinfandel grapes in 1919. Cesare kept the family in vines throughout prohibition, shipping grapes for winemaking to those brave enough to test their skills at home. In 1943, Robert Mondavi urged his father to purchase Charles Krug Winery, where the Mondavi brothers, Robert and Peter, could step into winemaking together.

The next big leap came in 1966 with the creation of Robert Mondavi Winery, the first modern winery after prohibition. Robert knew that Napa Valley could stand against the rest of the world in producing the finest wines. He had the vision and the dedication to make it happen. Over the decades, Mondavi became a household name, synonymous with quality above all else.

Each generation of Mondavi has left their mark on the wine world, always reaching for a higher, brighter star in what must be a hereditary drive for excellence.
"2019 Continuum is a singularly significant vintage marking the families of Tim and Marcia Mondavi’s 100th harvest in wine. A family journey in wine that has taken many forms, but step by step, generation by generation, is marked by a forward pursuit of excellence in wine. From humble beginnings in grape shipping to an elevated and global perspective with partnerships in Opus One, Sena, Luce, and the acquisition of Ornellaia. A spirit of experimentation, innovation and research, continues to inform their commitment in wine today. Continuum is the highest attainment of their dream to realize a terroir driven, estate grown wine."

A trip to Continuum’s estate vineyards is a glimpse into the next hundred years. It took three years of searching to find Sage Mountain Vineyard, located along the eastern ridge high above Oakville. The soils and the exposure hold the promise of perfection, and we all know perfection has its price. This was no easy location to plant, but site is the soul of a wine, and Sage Mountain Vineyard has proven worth the effort.
