Red Schooner 'Voyage 11' Red Wine of the World
Grapes for this Malbec are grown in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, then chilled and transported by ocean voyage to Caymus, where we use our winemaking techniques to create a style that is dense, dark and supple. Falling outside standard labeling rules, Red Schooner does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it traveled (i.e. Voyage 11 is the 2021 vintage). Strikingly smooth, with scents and flavors of dark fruit and fine, textural tannins.
The Wagner family—the juggernaut behind Caymus, Mer Soleil, Conundrum, and more—is proud to release the latest incarnation of their old-vine Malbec grown in Argentina: Red Schooner. It’s been remarkable to see how quickly this wine has caught on with Caymus fans. There’s something about its blackberry and cassis liqueur aromas and fathomless richness that makes it so dang hard to put that glass down. At first blush, it seems curious that the Wagners would ship Malbec grapes from Mendoza, Argentina, to Napa to make into wine. But here’s the thing: you can’t find own-rooted, 100-year old Malbec vines in California. The concentration and plushness that emerges from these tiny berries is something to behold.
